Training Program on Application of Disaster Risk Assessment for Development Planning and Effective Emergency Response (Posted on )

Training Program on Application of Disaster Risk Assessment for Development Planning and Effective Emergency Response will be held on 26 - 30 March 2018 at PGIS, University of Peradeniya.
Disaster Management Centre started 05 day training program on Application of Disaster Risk Assessment for Development Planning and Effective Emergency Response for the officers if DMC and other institution under the Ministry of Disaster Management.The programs was jointly organized with the cooperation of Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC under the Asian Preparedness Partnership), International Water Management Institute (IWMI), United Nationals Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA - UNSPIDER).
The training program covers the aspects of hazard assessment, vulnerability and risk assessment and tools such as GIS and Remote Sensing.
The programs was organized as a integral part of the ongoing multi-hazard risk assessment project implemented during the period of 2016 – 2019, funded by GoSL. Dr. S. Amalanathan, Director General, DMC, Dr. Pitawala Director PGIS were represented the inauguration session

New Director General of Disaster Management Centre (Posted on )

Dr. S Amalanathan has assumed duty as Director General of Disaster Management Centre on 15th March 2018 at Disaster Management Centre, Vidya Mawatha Colombo -07.

Dr. S Amalanathan is a Special Grade officer of Sri Lanka Administrative Service with 27 years of experience in Public Service. He has previously served as Additional Secretary of Disaster Management, prior to join Disaster Management Centre.


He has held a number of senior possession in the public service as Divisional Secretary of Kalawanchikudi (1991/93) Assistant Commissioner of Agrarian Services (1993/1995), Divisional Secretary of Kalmunai, Thirukkovil and Manmunaipattu (1995-2010), Commissioner of Department of Co-operative Development (2010), Secretary of the Chief Minister Secretariat and Local Government in Eastern Provincial Council (2010-2012), Secretary of the Health Ministry in Eastern Provincial Council (2012-2014). And He obtained different productivity awards at Divisional, District, Provincial and National level.


Dr. S Amalanathan holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Economics from the University of Jaffna.


He is also the current Project Director of the SLCDMP, C-CAP and DATA Project under the Ministry of Disaster Management.
