Training, Education & Public Awareness Division generally provides training and public awareness for relevant government agencies departments and other stakeholders including community groups in Sri Lanka.
Role of the Division:
- Strategic thinking and planning for implementing programmes for the Division keeping in line with corporate plan and the Road Map.
- Promote and increase public awareness on Disaster Management (DM) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) among school children, academic institutes, government officials, general public, Non-Government Organizations/International Non-Government Organization community
- Promote awareness and train university graduates through integration of DRR in university curriculum
- Raise awareness on School Safety program among selected schools through Ministry of Education /Dept. of Education.
- Promote awareness on DM/DRR among professional group, key decision makers through training and short courses
- Increase capacity among key institutions through training of officials and training aids/tools
- Integrate DM training curriculum in continuing education.
- Coordinate National Disaster Management Council Meeting.
- Arrange and conduct training program for internal staff members of Colombo and outstations to enhance the knowledge on DM and DRR.
- Represent Disaster Management Centre at key national and international forum as and when required.
- Develop annual budgets, plans for Division/projects and monitor financial budgets.
- Supervise the activities of the staff and maintain systematic working environment in order to deliver the expected output of the work plan.
