In Nuwara Eliya district Walapane and Hanguranketha
divisions have been severely affected by landslides. 60 GN divisions
in Walapane division and 49 GN divisions in Haguranketha have been
affected. A total number of 4016 families were affected in the Nuwara
Eliya district and so far 16 deaths have been reported from the
district. 1125 families were internally displaced and located in 75
IDP camps (51 Walapane & 24 Hanguranketha). All together 18, 376
people were affected and 5 were missing. 103 houses were fully damaged
and 741 houses were partially damaged.
Meanwhile in Hambantota district 72 GN divisions in the
administrative divisions of Hambantota (17), Lunugamwehera (9),
Ambalantota (10) and Tissamaharama (36) were affected by floods. In
these GN divisions 3794 families have been affected. 520 families are
in 16 camps. 209 houses were reported as fully damaged and 56 houses
were reported as partially damaged. Officers of the DMC district units
are coordinating with the government agencies and other relevant
agencies to minimize the impacts and further damage from any future
events. DMC coordinators and teams have been deployed to the affected
areas. They are coordinating immediate restoration, recovery and
relief activities with the Government Agencies, Military Forces, UN
Agencies, NGOs, CBOs and Local Authorities for response. Ministry of
Relief Services is providing food and non food relief suppliers to the
affected communities.
