| The 3rd Disaster Management Exercise (16 October 2008) |
The 3rd Disaster Management (DM) Exercise from the government level
to community level and evacuation drill in selected communities were
conducted on October 16, 2008. Galle and Kalutara participated for the first
time and Ratnapura for the second time from District level.
Next day on October 17, the evaluation meeting of the exercise was
held to discuss short comes and issues. There were several issues that were
raised during the evaluation meeting. Also, on the same day, Mini-Seminar
was held to introduce and share Japanese experiences and key issues for

| Final Phase of the Study has Started (6 September 2008) |
|
In September 2008, the Final Phase of the
Study has started. The major activities of this phase
are;
- Community based Disaster Management Activities
at 15 selected communities including evacuation drill.
- Pilot Project for
Flood Early Warning in Kelani and Kalu River Basin, covering procurement and
installation of hydro-meteorological observation equipment,
communication system establishment and Information Transfer Exercise for early warning, and
- CBDM Seminar with preparation of education material.
The final phase of the Study continues
untill the end of this year and all activities will be complied with the
Draft Final Report which will be published in January 2009.
