The Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management Sri Lanka (A-PAD SL) hosted its annual International Symposium on the 30^th of August,2022, critically assessing the issues at hand in the country and highlighting positive future prospects that can be worked towards, while placing emphasis on how disaster risk reduction can be given more prominence in the process. Under the theme "Crisis in Crises: Unlocking the Power of Alliances Towards Innovative Recovery", the Symposium brought together leading figures and international experts from different sectors to engage in a constructive dialogue on cross-sectoral collaboration between the public and private sectors and how these alliances can be utilized to facilitate innovative recovery and build stronger institutions for the future.

දිවයින ආශ්‍රිත පහළ වායු ගෝලයේ පවතින කැළඹිලි ස්වභාවය හේතුවෙන් දිවයිනේ බොහෝ ප්‍රදේශවලට මිලිමීටර් 150 ක පමණ ගිගුරුම් සහිත වැසි ඇතිවිය හැකි බව කාලගුණවිද්‍යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව විසින් අද දින (31) නිවේදනය කර ඇත.

බස්නාහිර, දකුණ,සබරගමුව, මධ්‍යම සහ ඌව පළාත්වල ඇතැම් ස්ථානවල මිලිමීටර් 150 ක පමණ තද වර්ෂාපතනයක් වාර්තා විය හැකි බවත් දිවයිනේ සෙසු පළාත්වල මිලිමීටර් 100 ය ඉක්ම වු තද වැසි ඇති විය හැකි බවත් කාලගුණවිද්‍යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තු නිවේදනයේ සදහන් වේ.

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) with the technical assistance of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Sri Lanka and the financial support of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia (DFAT) launched the first handbook on Gender, Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Disasters on 19th August 2022.

The handbook provides practical guidance to policymakers, response staff of the Disaster Management Centre and community groups to plan, coordinate, implement, monitor and evaluate essential actions for a gender equitable disaster response. This book contributes to the implementation of the Policy Framework and National Plan of Action to address Sexual and Gender based Violence (SGBV) in Sri Lanka, initiated by the Ministry of Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment.
