Coastal Hazard Profile

As the Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Department (CCCRMD) is mandated for the management of the entire coastal belt of the Coastal zone of Sri Lanka. Therefore it was entrusted with the overall responsibility for the preparation of Coastal Hazards such as Coastal Erosion, Sea Level Rise, Storm Surge and Tsunami.

Drought Hazard Profile

The responsibility for preparation of the hazard profile on Drought was taken up by the Natural Resource Management Centre (NRMC), Department of Agriculture and Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.

Flood Hazard Profile

Irrigation Department (ID) is mandated through the flood ordinance of the country to mange riverine floods in Sri Lanka. Therefore the responsibility of development of the hazard profile for the Flood was entrusted to ID.

Lightning and Tropical Cyclones Hazard Profile

Weather related hazards such as Lightning and Tropical Cyclones were entrusted to the Department of Meteorology(DOM) and it took the overall responsibility of preparation of Tropical Cyclone and Lightning hazard profiles.

Landslide Hazard Profile

Building Research Organization (NBRO) had been working on mapping landslide hazard areas since 1990. Therefore the responsibility of development of the hazard profile for the Landslides was entrusted to NBRO.
