Mainly the District is divided in
to two portions as Upper region and Lower region according to climatic and
geographical characteristics. Upper Division of the District is famous for
tea plantation and vegetable cultivation while lower Division is famous for
paddy cultivation.

Climate And Rainfall
The southern parts of the Uva basin get a rainfall of 1524-1905 mm per year
while the annual average rainfall of the District reaches 1397 mm. The
temperature varies with the elevation respectively. At a height
of 200 m, the temperature of Namunukula, Diyathalawe and Badulla
indicate the values of 20.6 C°, 23.4C° and 25.2C° respectively.
