Galle District Profile

Location and Area

Galle District is situated in Southern Sri Lanka. Total extent of the Galle District is about 1652 Km2 It is consisting of 35 Km2 of water bodies and 1617 Km2 of land. Topography of Galle District is very much dissent. The District consists of rain forests, which is the water catchment area for most of the rivers and lakes in Galle District.

North : Benthara River
East : Matara & Ratnapura
West : Indian Ocean
South : Indian Ocean

 

Climate and Rainfall

Annual rain fall is between 2000-2500 mm. The climatic condition of Hiniduma Division is very similar to the central hill country of Sri Lanka. Galle District lies in a temperate climatic zone.
