Kalutara District Profile

Location and Area 

Kalutara is a coastal District located in the Western Province of Sri Lanka with an area of 1,607 km˛. The District accounts for 2.4% of the country‘s total land area.

South  : Galle
West : Indian Ocean
East : Ratnapura 

      

Climate and Rainfall

The weather conditions in Kalutara are slightly different to the inland areas. Humidity tends to be generally high in Sri Lanka but is modified on the coast by breezes from across the sea. Temperature between around 25°C and 30°C all year, with the driest season between December and April. Average rainfall in Kalutara is around 2,400 mm a year. The two rainy seasons in the west of the island fall from May to July and from October to December.
